Harvey Fierstein

Broadway legend Harvey Fierstein is an actor and playwright. As an actor, he is best known for starring as Edna Turnblad in Hairspray on Broadway (and later in the televised special Hairspray Live!) and as Arnold Beckoff in Torch Song Trilogy, which he also wrote. He won Tony Awards for both performances.

Fierstein also won the Tony for Best Play for Torch Song Trilogy. His other theatrical writing credits include the books for La Cage aux Folles (Tony Award), Kinky Boots, Newsies, and A Catered Affair. He was inducted into the American Theater Hall of Fame in 2007.

Additionally, Fierstein earned an Emmy nomination for playing Mark Newberger on the TV show Cheers. His film credits include Mrs. Doubtfire, Independence Day, Mulan, and Mulan II.
